Onlays
These restorations are used on back teeth instead of full coverage crowns and simple fillings. I almost always use Emax porcelain as my material of choice as it allows me to exactly mimic the aesthetics of your natural tooth structure, while only requiring the minimum preparation of your tooth. This is a very conservative approach compared with traditional crowns.
They are ideal when restoring moderately to severely broken down teeth or when replacing large ugly silver fillings. They provide excellent function and aesthetics with fantastic protection for your tooth and so the vast majority will last over a decade when well maintained.
What to Expect:
The procedure to restore teeth with Emax inlays require two visits, the first of which will entail the removal of any old fillings or decay, followed by the cavity being refined to produce the ideal contours. This will require local anaesthesia. Once a small impression ( mould) of the area is taken, a temporary restoration is placed for 2-3 weeks. It is then removed and the final onlay restoration is checked for fitting and aesthetics before being bonded to the tooth, restoring it to its original beauty and providing protection for many years ( with optimal home care).
